MEVOE REVIEW: Meet the Blacks (R)

Meet the Blacks fails with too many genres, forced jokes and bad acting.

Mike Epps plays the father who wants a better life for his children and new wife. The only problem, he lives a shady lifestyle and steals money from a not so nice guy along the way. Then he decides he's going to move his family out of a rough Chicago neighborhood to Beverly Hills.

The plot is your typical, lets change our lives scenario that you see in so many movies. However, this movie takes on one too many challenges. First. its a comedy and horror film that attempts to spoof the Purge movies. That's too much for one movie. That is one of the reasons why this movie is such a failure.

Overall, you will laugh, if you are the type that finds, stereotypical jokes about black people and their culture funny. For me, this is a turn off. Epps is a comedian and could easily make this movie funny with out so many jokes that degrade solely black people.

The script is written in a way that there are many moments for funny jokes about life, but its as if they are trying to force a bunch of jokes in a small period of time - and fail. There are some jokes that are just alright funny but too often it feels forced.

Also the script is weak in that it doesn't connect conflicts in the money, such as the money that disappears. Did they ever find it?

I think Mike Epps is an amazing comedian who is funny effortlessly but this movie is joke.
